Widmer Brothers Raspberry Russian Imperial Stout ’13

Purely by coincidence I’m following the last raspberry beer post with another one, but the two brews are on opposite ends of approaching raspberry incorporation. For almost thirty years, Widmer Brothers has grown to produce a broad variety of beers, including many seasonal and limited releases. The Raspberry Russian Imperial Stout ’13 has 9.3% ABV and 70 IBU, so this special and limited brew is not for the meek. There is a fruity bass note strumming along, but the harmony of chocolate, caramel, and smokiness is more forte. It is truly a stout at heart, with extra trills of flavor for good measure. Timing is important – take a rest to enjoy this far from atonal beer, at least a minuet. But don’t let it go flat, and keep away from any minor.
Sorry, got carried away with musical references. I don’t want to cause dissonance or treble.
