Calicraft Oaktown Brown Ale

Calicraft Brewery of the East Bay isn’t yet a year old, and the website is still under construction, but they are active on other social media sites. Spirited yet chill, just like California (the slogan is “California, bottled”), this 6.7% ABV/unknown IBU is “deep & soulful” as per the label, and I agree. The malt is strong, but so are the hops; the first sip brought me back to the first time I tried an IPA, and while the label admits that this is reminiscent of an IPA, it is definitely a brown ale. It starts off bitter and then turns to toffee as an aftertaste, so it’s great for sipping alone or pairing with a robust-flavored meal.
